The year 2018 is coming to a close, and Wolters Kluwer Health has released its worldwide survey results on the Fitness Trends of 2019 just in time. Thanks to Brittany Smith of Men’s Journal, we’ve received interesting news that bodyweight training makes it to the top 5.

That could mean at least one thing: bodyweight exercises are still getting attention from all over the globe. After all, these physical activities are doable anytime, anywhere.

Why Bodyweight Training?

Apparently, more people are drawn to bodyweight exercises for a number of practical benefits. Smith emphasizes one of them:

“…using your own body weight as resistance is a killer way to safely build muscle.”

Indeed, it isn’t just about being the easier or more convenient mode of exercise. It’s about, as Smith would put it, “training smarter.”

“Training smarter, not necessarily harder, is taking precedence in personal and group training.”

Other Fitness Trends

Other fitness trends that made it to the top of the list are as follows:

  • Fitness programs for older adults (above 40). This sounds good news to me. If you belong to this age group, it’s high time to follow the trend! I suggest you start with bodyweight training programs first! It should be best for your overall health.
  • HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training). Now, this is trending because we’re all busy, and we want real, fast results. Rephrase that, and it means we want something intense!
  • Group training (attending organized classes). I’d say fitness coaches have greater opportunities coming in 2019!
  • Fitness trackers. Well, for bodyweight training enthusiasts like me, I guess having fitness trackers, especially wearables, are a must-have! I like monitoring my fitness level on my own. I bet you do, too.

Start Bodyweight Training Now!

While it’s undoubtedly a booming trend in 2019, bodyweight training is something you’d better start doing now. The results are great, and there are plenty of body weight workouts that don’t slash so much of your time. Start doing daily bodyweight exercises at home today, and reap results even before the new year starts!
